HOW TO PLAY

MusicChain challenges players to link songs through five types of connections: keywords (Easy Mode), artists, featured performers, writers, and producers. Each round gives you 45-75 seconds to find a song that shares at least one of these elements with your opponent's choice

GAME RULES

  1. There's 45-75 seconds per turn to make your connection
  2. Link songs through shared keywords in song title (only in easy game mode), artists, features, writers, or producers
  3. Must have verifiable connection through music databases
  4. Last player to successfully link wins the round

WHAT ARE KEYWORDS? (EASY MODE)

Keywords are the underlined words in the song title. The best way to understand keywords is to ask what aren't keywords

  1. Keywords aren't articles like the, and an etc.
  2. Keywords aren't prepositions like about, above and across etc.
  3. Keywords aren't pronouns like I, me and you etc.
  4. Keywords aren't verbs like is, be and have etc.
  5. Keywords aren't compound prepositions like according to, because of and due to etc.

PRO TIPS

  1. Study album credits to discover hidden producer connections
  2. Learn about frequent collaborators in different genres
  3. Remember featured artists often appear on multiple tracks
  4. Popular producers like Max Martin have worked with hundreds of artists

LIFELINES

Can't think of a song? Almost out of time? Use a lifeline

  1. REVEAL
    Use the REVEAL lifeline to see featured artists, producers and writers of the previously linked song.

    Use the SKIP lifeline to skip your turn. This will force your opponent to link to a song they just played.

HOW TO START A GAME

There are 3 game types; Challenge A Friend, Play Online & Challenge AI.

  1. CHALLENGE A FRIEND
    • Click the Challenge A Friend button
    • Optional: Use the song input to change the starting song
    • Optional: Use the artist input to ban certain artist(s)
    • Optional: Use the time input to set the turn time limit
    • Click the Copy Link button to get sharable game link
    • Share link with friend
    • Once player 2 clicks the Join Game button, the game starts
  2. PLAY ONLINE
    • Click the Play Online button
    • Optional: Use the song input to change the starting song
    • Optional: Use the artist input to ban certain artist(s)
    • Optional: Use the time input to set the turn time limit
    • Once player 2 clicks the Start Game button, the game starts
    • Note: There might not be enough traffic to find a game online. Try challenging a friend instead
  3. CHALLENGE AI
    • Click any of the Challenge AI buttons
    • Optional: Use the song input to change the starting song
    • Optional: Use the artist input to ban certain artist(s)
    • Optional: Use the time input to set the turn time limit
    • The game starts when you click the Start Game Button
    • Give your AI opponent a couple seconds. They're excited to play

There are 2 game modes; Easy and Standard.

  1. EASY MODE
    Easy mode allows song connections through title keywords, artists, producers or writers. This is the best game mode for new players.
  2. STANDARD MODE
    Standard mode only allows song connections through artists, producers or writers. This is the best game mode for hardcore music heads.
